Plenty of drive for the nationals

The members of the ADF Arafura Games golf team will be competing against each other at the
ADF National Golf Championships:
WO2 Wayne Le Lievre, SCMA;
CPL
Steve Rotherham, 5 AVN REGT; SGT Greg Fraser, 381ECSS;
WGCDR
Trevor Owens, ADFPC-C,
SGT
Mike Hofmeier, 1SQN.

THE cream of the ADF’s golfers will be driving for low handicaps and straight putts at the ADF National Golf Championships.

Defence’s premier golf tournament will once again be played at Canberra’s Federal Golf Club From December 5-9, under the auspices of the ADF Golfing Association (ADFGA).

Tournament Director Wing Commander Trevor Owens said the event would comprise the usual format of 72 holes of stroke play.

It will incorporate the single Service championship, the state team championship, the Service team championship, and the final of the regional handicap championship.

“The event brings together the best of the ADF’s golfers,” he said.

“We are expecting current champion Corporal Steve Rotherham, from 5th Aviation Regiment, to come back to vie for back-to-back titles, especially after his individual silver medal success at the 2005 Arafura Games [in Darwin].

“The 2004 single Service champions will also be returning to challenge him for the title.

“They are Lieutenant Andrei Ezergailis, from HMAS Stirling, who is a five-time ADF champion, Private Damian Jordan, from 2nd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, and Sergeant Craig Melville from RAAF Base Williamtown.

“I expect Corporal Cynarra Wheatley, also from RAAF Base Williamtown, to be back to defend the ADF ladies’ championship.”

The ADFGA has also renewed its major sponsorship deals with the AMBIT Group, Electroboard and C3I.
“This will ensure the continued success of the ADFGA’s annual competition schedule,” he said.

ADFGA President, Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Russ Shalders, said that such sponsorship arrangements were vital to the success of the association.

“Both companies have now been strong and willing supporters of the ADFGA for a number of years,” he said.

“The ADFGA committee will continue to work with them for the betterment of ADF golf.”

The tournament entry package has been distributed to all the ADFGA’s regional representatives or it can be downloaded from the ADFGA website.
