Bungendore HQ gets green light
CONSTRUCTION
of the new Headquarters Joint Operations Command facility near
Bungendore has been given environmental approval.
The approval requires that a number of important environmental
aspects relating to traffic and water-balance management be satisfactorily
addressed.
Studies have indicated there will be bigger traffic impacts than
predicted, and the project office and local roads authorities
are investigating ways to reduce them.
Water supply for the new headquarters will be drawn from a balance
of rainwater, stormwater, recycled water and extracted groundwater
from bores on the site. The project has a water-balance strategy
that is designed to minimise the use of groundwater.
The approval requires a strategy be developed if groundwater monitoring
indicates an adverse impact on the aquifer.
