Basis for success

WING Commander Tracey Simpson has come to love RAAF Base Richmond in her 18 years in the Air Force. She was first posted there in 1992 as No. 37 Squadron’s admin officer and returned as the Base Commander last year.

She looks after all aspects of running RAAF Base Richmond, and her responsibilities include the environment, welfare, personnel, and almost everything else that supports the Air Lift Group.

“Fortunately, I have cultivated good working relationships with Commander ALG, CSIG management and the other base executives, which together with great support from my staff, enables me to get the job done,” she says.
She works hard to develop a community spirit at the base and with the local community.

“The local population don’t complain about noise pollution or make other problems because they have come to appreciate the C-130s’ vital role in disaster relief and peace support operations,” she says.

According to Wing Commander Simpson, Air Force personnel like to be posted to Richmond “because it’s a great work environment” and they understand that the job they do is important for ADF operations.
