Contract signed to service bases

THREE hundred million dollars worth of new Defence contracts are to begin shortly at Defence establishments in the south-west Sydney region.

Serco Sodexho Defence Services Pty Ltd has been selected as the contract provider for the provision of garrison support services, including hospitality and catering, waste management, security and cleaning, and Defence Maintenance Management Pty Ltd for the provision of facilities maintenance services.

The new five-year contracts were announced by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Teresa Gambaro on August 3. They are planned to begin in October.

Ms Gambaro said the contracts would deliver an increase in the quality of base support services to the ADF, as well as provide an economic boost for Nowra, Liverpool, Richmond, Windsor and the Blue Mountains, among others.

“A significant portion of the total value of these contracts will be invested back into businesses in the local communities around Defence bases in the Sydney West South Region,” she said.

The five-year contracts have a cost in excess of $60 million per year and replace previous contracts for these services.

They are the third in the series of a planned 11 regional contract re-tendering activities to be conducted by Defence.
