DMO becomes prescribed agency

Defence can expect a greater focus on business and improved support for the purchase and maintenance of Defence equipment, with the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) becoming a prescribed agency.

Outgoing CDF General Peter Cosgrove, Secretary of Defence Ric Smith and DMO Chief Executive Officer Dr Stephen Gumley signed the prescribed agency agreement on July 1.

The agreement is the culmination of legislative, organisational and financial changes by Defence and other Government agencies since the acceptance of the Kinnaird Review of Defence procurement.

To allow DMO more control to deliver its services, Dr Gumley has been given powers to adjust staffing and financial resources to meet DMO’s requirements effectively and efficiently within overall budget guidelines.
