A MEMORIAL to the members of Bomber Command has been under construction at the Australian War Memorial and will be officially dedicated on July 23.

The memorial features a 16.5m tall stainless steel tower, which will be illuminated at night to signify a searchlight, with a stainless steel silhouette of air and ground crew at its base.

Designed by New Zealand sculptor Neil Dawson, the memorial is located in a corner of the War Memorial grounds.

About 2000 Bomber Command veterans are expected to attend the dedication.
