Players to be flat out at national squash comp

RAAF Base Williamtown will showcase outstanding form when it hosts the ADF Squash Association’s annual national carnival, from August 19-22.

Open to all ADF and APS personnel, competitions will be held in men’s and ladies’ open events, men’s and ladies’ A, B, C and D graded events, men’s and ladies’ masters, and a doubles event.

The carnival will cater for players of all standards from beginners to advanced in both the open and graded events.

All players will be graded through opening games to ensure their right level. All grades will then play a round-robin series, with the winners of each grade playing off in the finals on August 22.

The masters is open to men 35 years and older, and women 30 years and older.

For safety reasons the doubles event is restricted to players of a reasonable and safe standard. Partners for the doubles will be decided by a panel to ensure the talent is spread out.

The national-level inter-Service tournament will be played during the carnival. Representative teams of four men and two women will compete, with Army playing Navy to challenge Air Force as the reigning champions.

Cost for the tournament is $40 for financial members and $50 for new players, which includes life membership of ADF Squash and an ADF Squash shirt.

For more information about the tournament, contact Sergeant Madonna Doyle on (02) 4964 6213 or email Madonna.Doyle@defence.gov.au.
