Legends of a pirate curse

FLTLT Russell Avery

AIR Force Reserve Chaplain Flight Lieutenant Russell Avery is a descendant of a notorious pirate and believes the family is accordingly cursed.

He believes the curse is alive and well. FLTLT Avery recently broke an Australian land speed record established by his grandfather when he drove an MG from Longreach to Brisbane.

The run completed, he set his sights on a new record from Canterbury, UK, to Istanbul in Turkey, again using an MG.

Negotiations with MG seemed to be stalled until April 15 when he learned of the demise of the company.

“That is the date Lincoln was assassinated, is a tax day in the United States and is also the day the Titanic sank,” he said. “It’s also my birthday.”

Dentist’s dog day

Raaf Dentists working on 321 Combat Support Squadron police dog, Curtis
People in the waiting room at the RAAF Base Darwin dental section would have been surprised to see this patient wheeled out of surgery. A 321 Combat Support Squadron police dog, Curtis, underwent dental surgery after breaking his two top canine teeth during training. The operation was conducted by the base dentist, with the assistance of civilian vetinary staff.
