Rumble Roses

RUMBLE ROSES

PS2

Get ready to tumble

Rumble Roses
PS2

The game:

The first all-female pro-wrestling game containing extremely detailed, cinematic scenes. Each character has their own very lame story line.

The play:
Reasonably complex in the button-pushing department, this title is there initially for the visual amusement factor but it does have a lot of convincing gameplay in the wrestling arena.

It is no more complex than dealing out some of the more advanced fatalities in a Mortal Kombat style. Develop good or bad personalities for each character to unlock different costumes and some pretty crushing moves.

The constant cinematic scenes slow the game down considerably.

Fight club: Women fight it out in Rumble Roses.
Fight club: Women fight it out in Rumble Roses.

The terrain:
From sandy beaches with mud pits to the Hollywood-style WWX wrestling ring, you’ll fight to the finish.

The experience:
I’m never a big fan of reading the instructions but I’ll have to admit that after being thrown around the ring like a rag doll for three bouts, I grabbed them in an attempt to restore a little pride.

After a little research I was soon introducing my opponents to my knee and elbow at regular intervals. One for the boys.

DRIV3R

PC

Driver with attitude

DRIV3R
PC

The game:
The second sequel in the Driver series, this title is bursting with action-packed, fast-paced police chases as Tanner returns as the ruthless undercover cop with a fearless driving attitude.

This time it’s a global car theft ring with a mysterious buyer ordering 40 stolen high performance vehicles and, of course, you as Tanner are going to stop him while attempting to keep your cover intact.

The play:
More than 70 playable vehicles, including boats and buses with eight different weapons – such as machine guns and grenade launchers (oh, yes), more than 30 different integrated missions, 12 licensed music tracks and the voices of stars – such as Mickey Rourke and Ving Rames – makes this game big in every way.

The terrain:
From Miami to Nice to Istanbul, the 156 miles of scenery is exceptional with attention to detail paid to the whole environment – not just the vehicles.

Driver 3
Airborne: Car chases in Driv3r are exceptional.

The experience:
The car chases are exceptional, although it’s a little difficult to get used to the controls on a keyboard. Slow motion effects combined with a fast-paced storyline and everyone being your enemy means this title aims to please – I found it very difficult to stop and save.

Scaler

SCALER

PS2, XBOX, GAMECUBE

Scaly critters

SCALER
PS2, XBOX, GAMECUBE

IN THE vein of Spiro and Sonic the Hedgehog comes Scaler.

Help Bobby “Scaler” Jenkins stop the evil Looger and his henchmen Bootcamp, Jazz, Rhombus and Turbine from gaining control of the worlds of the Multiverse.

Bobby Jenkins is transformed into a lizard when he escapes through a portal created by his neighbour, a scientist named Leon who has been captured and tortured by the evil Looger.

Power up with Klokkies and crystal gems to maintain your health and upgrade your powers as you battle evil monsters.
Travel through the Multiverse learning the powers of defeated enemies and transform Bobby “Scaler” Jenkins so he can use their unique powers to his advantage.

Scaler can climb vertical surfaces and move upside down through the intricate mazes of the worlds of the Multiverse, or slide and skate along vines storing static electricity so he can unleash his special power, the electric bomb attack, on those monsters harder to defeat.

Use Scaler’s tongue attack to take out minor enemies at a distance and to stun stronger enemies before finishing them off with his claw attack.

Where force won’t get you through, use Scaler’s camouflage ability to get by enemies and traps.

For those with a Peter Pan complex or who are just looking for a game full of fun. Scaler is a quick-witted and amusing adventure.
