Five bases offer politicians a few days of work

RAAF Base Pearce, RAAF Base Richmond’s Air Lift Group, RAAF Base Williamtown’s Air Combat Group, RAAF Base Edinburgh’s No. 92 Wing, 1RTU and ARDU and RAAF Base Wagga’s Ground Training Wing are all taking part in this year’s ADF Parliamentary Program.

The program offers Federal parliamentarians the opportunity to spend time with selected units to understand more about how Defence works on a day-to-day basis. Sixteen options are offered for this year’s program.

While on the program, the parliamentarians are treated as serving Defence personnel, eating in messes and interacting with all ranks.

In previous years, they have found themselves peeling potatoes, working in kitchens, standing night watches or conducting maintenance work.

While parliamentarians are deployed, selected ADF personnel are also attached to various parliamentarians’ offices at Parliament house for a week to experience their typical day. The program runs during Parliament’s autumn and winter recesses.
