SUBMISSIONS
for annual funding from the Air Force Sports Council (AFSC) are
due at the end of the month. The AFSC was set up in 2004 to support
Air Force sporting clubs.
To date, 13 Air Force sports clubs across Australia have benefited
from financial support for uniforms, venue hire, equipment or
referee and coaching fees.
Among the clubs that have received funding are alpine sports,
rugby league, volleyball, cricket and golf. The resources assist
clubs to participate in sporting activities that include carnivals,
inter-Service and national competitions.
To be eligible, sports must be involved in a structured, competitive
environment and will be characterised by physical exertion and
skill that contributes to physical conditioning.
The sports will preferably offer participation in a team-based
environment that encourages and fosters the development of esprit
de corps.
The sports should also be accessible to a broad cross-section
of the ADF population and will contribute to a favourable public
Defence image.
Eligibility for AFSC consideration includes rigorous safety and
governance requirements. The AFSC is guided by DI(AF) PERS 29-33
and DI(G) PERS 14- 2.
The former DI – only released recently – formalised the method
for approving grants to Air Force sports clubs and associations.
Submissions for funding need to be received by the AFSC by April
30.
There will be no further calls for submissions.
If you are a member of an Air Force sports club interested in
obtaining support from the AFSC, address your inquiry to the Deputy
Director Coordination in Air Force Headquarters, Wing Commander
Rowley Tompsett on (02) 6265 3939.
