AIR Force has failed to break Army’s run in the Queensland inter-
Service cricket competition. The event was held in Townsville
from March 14-18 and featured a state Air Force team and Army
teams from north and southeast Queensland.
Air Force has won the event only once in its 12-year history.
The competition opened with Air Force and south-east Queensland
squaring off, Air Force at the crease.
The runs did not come Air Force’s way and the team walked to the
pavilion all out for 94. While the wicket rate was better, south-east
Queensland Army left the pitch at 6-97, 42 of their runs coming
from just one player.
The second match against north Queensland Army gave Air Force
another shot at the final, but their efforts fizzled as the soliders
made 9-230 off 50 overs. In response, Air Force could only make
76 all out.
In the all-Army final, north Queensland walked away the victors
for the second year in a row. They bowled the south-east side
out for 125 and then clinched the series with 9-223.
