Management Services Agency looks for recruits for next year

MANAGEMENT Services Agency (MSA) is recruiting officers and airmen and women for employment in January 2006. MSA teams are located at RAAF Bases Amberley, Edinburgh, Richmond, Point Cook, Williams, Williamtown and in Canberra.

Flight Lieutenant Shane Monte recently moved into the OIC Amberley position and recalled his decision to step outside his “traditional” flying role and into the world of Air Force management consulting.

FLTLT Monte was already undertaking a Masters of Business Administration and felt that MSA offered him the opportunity to consolidate his skills and knowledge in management and leadership.

Recognition of his qualifications meant that he did not need to undertake prerequisite training and could step straight into the job.

“One of the critical success factors for many organisations is the ability to adapt and apply new knowledge and skills in a practical sense within the organisation. MSA is a tangible way that Air Force members can use their experience and knowledge to assist commanders in identifying solutions to organisational problems from the perspective of understanding the Air Force environment,” FLTLT Monte said.

“As an OIC, you will not only work on projects for commanders, you will also manage your local consultancy team, work on MSA internal business initiatives and manage relationships with local commanders.”

Another new addition to MSA is Sergeant Gail O’Connell, a clerk supply of 14 years.

SGT O’Connell is a consultant in the Williamtown team and feels that MSA has provided her with a fantastic development opportunity and ultimately the ability to make a difference within Air Force.

“I undertook the MSA prerequisite training and received six credits towards my MBA,” she said.

“The prerequisite training prepared me for all aspects of the job, whether it be conducting interviews with executives in preparation for a business plan, facilitating a team-building workshop, or conducting a review of a unit’s systems and process.”

Applications for MSA employment close on April 15.

Further information is available from the MSA web site at http://intranet.defence.gov.au/raafweb/sites/msa, the People Central web site at http://defweb.cbr.defence.gov.au/airforcepeoplecentral or by phoning WOFF Trudy Radin on (08) 8393 2869.

Non-destructive testing course

DP-AF invites nominations from Corporal ATECHs, AVTECHS and ADASTFITTS to undertake training that will lead to a remuster as ADATECH, employed as a nondestructive testing technician.

The 17-week course will begin on June 20 at RAAF Base Amberley.

For more information contact FSGT James Peace on (07) 5461 3092 or LACW Rebecca Townsend on (02) 6265 2290. Applications close April 15.
