Movie Review
A hell of a movie: Keanu Reeves pumps his demon-killing gun.

Not so high spirited

Rating: 3 stars

CONSTANTINE (Reeves) is a jaded demon slayer, who knows one day he’ll join all those he’s sent back to hell. He sees half-breed angels and demons who present themselves in human form.

As a child, he committed suicide to stop seeing things he couldn’t explain. He was resuscitated by doctors, but could never enter heaven after his sinful death attempt. He tries to earn salvation by demon-slaying.

When detective Angela begs Constantine to help her solve the mystery of her twin sister’s death, he is at first reluctant.

Then he realises it’s more than just a suicide. A holy lance has been found and through it, Satan’s son schemes to take control of the world instead of it being mutually controlled by Satan and God.

Constantine and Angela have to save mankind from fallen angels and the soldiers of hell. Although Constantine has received bad reviews, I quite enjoy the spiritual thriller genre.

In the spirit of Stigmata and Sin Eater, the struggle between good and evil is a compelling mix. Keanu Reeves looks best in a long black coat – a la Matrix – and plays this look in this film.

He is perfect for the role as his character is surly the whole way through. There’s no mix of emotions to reveal the flaws in his acting ability.
