Some
Brit-rock is inspired – like Travis and Coldplay, some
is sort of droll-sounding; the Doves come under the latter
description.
There are a few fun songs on this CD, but as a whole,
Some Cities, like its CD sleeve, is fairly monotone. |

WITH
a name that sounds like they should be in a competition
that gives out gold medals, this band gives other Brit-rock
bands a run for their money.
Athlete
has great lyrics, smooth ballads and quirky melodies.
If you buy one CD this pay, make it this one.

IF
YOU’RE just not into love songs, Departure Lounge:
Whatever gets across the sentiment without being
soppy.
Typical
of Petrol, you’re getting worldclass music that you
won’t hear all over radio here. Whatever is from
Petrol’s new Departure Lounge range.

ROCK-pop
bands are a dime a dozen, but Daughterboy Jao has a distinctive
twist to their first CD, Simple Matters. A follow-up
to their 2003 EP Fake Blood and the Rest is Unknown,
Daughterboy Jao is a credit to the the Melbourne music
scene. They share producer Paul McKercher with Eskimo
Joe and Little Birdy, which guarantees a top quality listening
experience. This CD definitely won’t disappoint. |

LISTENING
to Dream, it could be a surprise to find out Evermore
is a group of Sydney-based Kiwis. The album has US TV
drama (The OC) soundtrack written all over it and
a dream-like soft rock, grunge sound. Two giant thumbs
up to the Evermore guys. Another great Aussie (or adopted
Aussie) band. |

THIS
album has a mild country feel, and if you listen to
the whole CD in one sitting, you won’t touch it again
for weeks. With air play on Triple J, and an up-coming
tour, Dan Brodie’s popularity will sky rocket.
Beautiful
Crimes’ sound is a fresh look at Australian pop
rock.
