AIR
Force personnel will soon be given the opportunity for a shortterm
career change, when Any Airmen (ANYA) positions are released for
2006.
Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the positions will be listed
under Hot Jobs on People Central later this month.
Applications will close in mid-May. ANYA opportunities are available
to all ranks, with the majority corporal and above, and include
positions such as Australia’s Federation Guardsmen, military skills
instructors, Defence recruiters, personnel managers, Management
Services Agency, Commander valets and drivers, adventure training
instructors and base safety officers.
The tenure in these positions ranges from 2-4 years with the average
for most positions being three years.
ANYA personnel manager Flight Sergeant A.J. Smith said members
interested in a change of career and scenery should consider applying.
“I like to use my own personal experience as an example to people,
as ANYA offered me something different, a new challenge, and after
16 years in the Air Force I was starting to get a bit stale,”
he said.
“I used to be back working on the flightline in my little techo
world, but working in ANYA has provided me with a fantastic challenge
and broadened my knowledge of the Air Force.”
As well as offering members a break from their mustering, ANYA
employment increases their chances of getting posted to a particular
locality, and can improve their chances of promotion.
“People always ask how ANYA is going to affect their promotion
prospects, but it just comes down to how well you perform in that
job,” FSGT Smith said.
“I’ve managed members who have been employed as an MSI, for example,
and have been promoted in minimum time, whereas it may have taken
much longer in their own mustering.”
For members interested in applying, applying, good preparation
and a thorough understanding of the job is recommended.
“The best advice I can give people is to do your research for
any posting, but especially for ANYA, because it will only improve
your chances of a successful application.
Ring people in the positions to find out what the job is really
like and try and do work experience if you can, because you might
be interested in a job, but after doing it for a couple of days
could find it may not be for you.”
While vacancies for next year have not yet been identified, more
information on ANYA employment is under Career Progression on
People Central.
