Tindal
families introduced to remote living
DEFENCE
Community Organisation (DCO) Tindal recently hosted the annual
welcome expo to meet and introduce newly posted families to the
many local, educational, employment and child care organisations.
The expo was held in conjunction with the base induction of newly
arrived members on January 20. The event kicked off with a guided
tour of the various units and facilities on base, including No.
322 Combat Support Squadron and No. 75 Squadron.
DCO area manager Cara Frires and Chaplain Greg Barker acted as
tour guides, highlighting areas of interest for those on the tour.
A welcome presentation was held in the base chapel, with a number
of guest speakers, including OC Group Captain Wayne Knight, Katherine
Member of Legislative Assembly Faye Miller, Mayor of Katherine
Anne Shepherd, Jawoyn Association representative Veronica Birrell,
NT Police acting Superintendent Wayne Jenkins, Manager of DHA
Cameron Yin, Chaplain Greg Barker and Andrew Pickering from the
Department of Parks and Wildlife.
322CSS Flight Sergeant Molly Millington also gave an outline of
the entitlements unique to serving in a remote locality.
After the welcome, members and families moved across to the RAAF
Base Tindal gymnasium, where 64 stall holders from various community,
sporting, educational, employment and child care organisations
had displays of their activities and services.
Members and families took advantage of the opportunity to find
out more about their new location.
DCO provided a sausage sizzle and refreshments for all who attended.
