Be familiar with new leave instruction

A DEFENCE Instruction (General) has been produced as a result of continued improvements to the administration of civilian and military leave.

Personnel should familiarise themselves with the new guidelines and understand their responsibilities and accountabilities, according to David Spouse, Acting Director General, Resource Management - Personnel Executive.

“The instruction defines accountability for leave policy and procedures, and is the initial reference for the administration of all types of Defence leave,” Mr Spouse said.

“The instruction also provides direction to leave transactors and equally applies to individual ADF members and APS employees, who are ultimately responsible for the accuracy of their leave balances.”

Under DI(G) ADMIN 60-2:

  • All ADF and APS personnel are responsible for planning, obtaining supervisory approval, recording and taking leave to which they are entitled, and for ensuring their leave balance is accurate;
  • Supervisors are responsible for the planning, recommending and approving leave, and for confirming that the entitlement has been taken and recorded. Defence civilians are to have all leave plans recorded on their Plan on a Page; and
  • Group Heads are responsible for:
    -the management of leave balances in accordance with Secretary and CDF directives;
    -ensuring that their administrative processes enable entitlements to be recorded correctly on PMKeyS;
    -ensuring that all people in their Group plan, take and record leave; and
    -the conduct of random spot checks on leave records to ensure compliance.

DI(G) ADMIN 60-2 can be located online through Defence Documents on the Defence Restricted Network site.
