FIVE special children and their families have been treated to
a day at RAAF Base Williamtown, which opened its gates and hearts
to the Starlight Foundation for the second year in a row.
The visit was coordinated by Squadron Leader Patrick Del Guidice,
Senior Maintenance Manager of No. 3 Control and Reporting Unit
(3CRU) and a member of the Kiwanis Club of East Maitland, a community
service group that supports organisations such as the Starlight
Foundation.
No. 3 Squadron pilots and technicians showed the children and
their families an F/A-18. The level of excitement was evident
in the wide-eyed expressions of the children as they took turns
to sit in the cockpit.
This was followed by a visit to No. 76 Squadron where the group
saw a Hawk and flew in the Hawk simulator – nothing like
a $20 million X-Box to grab the attention.
3CRU Social Club served a barbecue lunch before the group visited
the Eastern Region Operations Centre for a presentation from No.
2 Squadron on the new AEW&C aircraft and a tour of the facility.
At 381ECSS, the kids climbed inside a fire engine, witnessed a
demonstration of Military Working Dogs and a weapons presentation.
