AIR
FORCE’s two-year domination of ADF national cricket has
ended.
The carnival, held from November 14-19, comprised a series of
50-over matches and Air Force was strongly placed for the final
of the interservice component after defeating the Royal New Zealand
Air Force 104 to 77 and Army 168 to 150.
But it wasn’t three times lucky for Air Force, which lost
the interservice title to Navy by 58 runs, 185 to 127.
The final against Navy looked good with early Navy wickets falling
quickly. The middle order batsmen could make only 80 runs despite
hanging in for some two hours. The tailenders scored 34 each and
gave Navy a total of 185 in the 48th over.
When Air Force stepped to the crease, Navy bowling cut a swathe
through the batting line-up with several LBWs, 3-16 off 6.5 overs
and 2-23 from 10 hours among the more notable results. Air Force
had to be content with a total of 127 in the 44th over.

THE
cricketing might of the Australian military has whacked Royal
New Zealand’s Air Force, but a combined Anzac effort has
proved weak against Queensland teenagers.
After the ADF interservice cricket competition, the best of the
ADF cricketers formed a First and Second XI to play a visiting
RNZAF team and the Queensland under 19s team.
The Second XI defeated the Kiwis, but Queensland beat the First
XI and the combined ADF/New Zealand team.
The ADF Second XI cricketers succeeded against the RNZAF by 32
runs on November 18.
However, their first innings started shakily with opening batsman
Flight Lieutenant Lloyd Selleck caught out for a duck in the first
over. Fellow opening batsman Corporal Michael Gunn added 38 runs
to the scoreboard.
They bowled the RNZAF team out in the 47th over with 10/217.
The
ADF First XI fell 88 runs short of 288 set by the Queensland under
19s. Aircraftman Adam Bosworth made 50 off 54 balls. Flight Lieutenant
Steve O’Hara joined him in the final over but was bowled
out, leaving Bosworth to finish on 64 runs.
The ADF/New Zealand Anzac team was bowled out for 172 by the Queensland
side on November 19. CPL Gunn put 21 runs on the scoreboard. Queensland
declared at 3/173.
