Bloodied but undefeated

By AB Kade Rogers

WITH just 63 points scored against them, the ASRU Warriors have returned undefeated from their recent tour of the US and Canada.

The Warriors kicked off their tour against Young Canada at Pacific Pride Centennial Stadium where they defeated the Canadians 22-15. Warriors skipper Captain Ben Rayward said the game was extremely physical, and the team lost an Army winger from a broken foot in the first five minutes.

Bloodied but unbowed, the Warriors journeyed to Annapolis where they beat the US Naval Academy 35-17. An Army and a Navy player were sidelined temporarily with head gashes early in the match, though this did not slow the Warriors advance. Among the standout performances was that of Leading Aircraftman Brendan Christensen.

Travelling to the US capital, the battle-hardened Warriors took on the Washington Rugby Football Club, running out easy winners 47-19. The Australians steam-rolled the Americans into submission with tries from six players, including LAC Christensen, who claimed man of the match.

With a week’s rest, the Warriors made tidy work of the Back Bay Rugby Football club in Newport, with an 80-point win of 92-12.

“This was an extremely successful tour and the team came together very well,” CAPT Rayward said.
