New logistics system to be deployable

A DEPLOYABLE logistics system is in the pipeline.

Detailed design is being completed and the system is expected to be built next year.

The ADF deployed logistic system (ADFDLS) will still allow deployable ADF units to use the Standard Defence Supply System while in the field – there will be no operational differences – but the new system will have several benefits.

ADFDLS project manager Gary Parker said the advantages of the new system included:

  • communications independence for deployed units for supply, distribution and maintenance activities;
  • reduced reliance on trunk communications infrastructure;
  • flexibility to quickly cater for differing operational organisations and supply chains;
  • consistency of use between in-barracks and deployed operations;
  • improved logistics system integrity through the use of consistent procedures and systems throughout the supply chain;
  • more accurate inventory accounting through improved data input and transfer processes;
  • improved visibility, control and reporting of the ADF’s global inventory holding and configuration; and
  • further standardisation and rationalisation of training, help desk and other support requirements.

The system is expected to be available to users during 2007.
