VICTORIA’S No. 4 Wing Australian Air Force Cadets have been learning the lingo of the Navy.

They recently attended the Naval Air Station and HMAS Albatross at Nowra for a general Service training camp. It took a little while to find out that the Navy have a different vocabulary from that used by the Air Force.

Parades are “divisions”, the parade ground is the “quarter deck” and the sergeants’ mess is the senior sailors’ mess. Once on board with the new vocabulary, the RAN School of Survivability and Ship Safety provided a challenge to the cadets during a “ship sinking” exercise.

Cadets also flew in Sea Hawks during the camp.
