Hornet stalwart farewelled

By SQNLDR Tony Grimmer

A MAN who served as an important link in the Hornet program has retired after more than 14 years as the Engineering Liaison Officer in the RAAF Technical Liaison Office at the US Naval Air Station - North Island, California.

For members of the Tactical Fighter Logistics Management Unit, Tom Robertson (pictured) was the person who knew how to get information or data needed to keep the Hornets flying safely, or he was the person persistently tracking down that part or item that had gone missing somewhere in the US.

Whatever it was, people were glad to hear his Oklahoma accent because it normally meant good news; he had found the part or had that much-needed drawing in his hand.

At a recent barbecue to farewell Mr Robertson, he was awarded the Tactical Fighter System Program Office Officer Commanding’s commendation for his outstanding service to the Air Force.

To maintain his Aussie links, he also received a didgeridoo, with a beginner’s manual.
