Sew
of support
THE
Defence Special Needs Group (DSNG) has celebrated its 10th anniversary
with a sausage sizzle and birthday cake at RAAF Base Richmond.
The DSNG provides support, information and assistance to Defence
families who care for someone with special needs or a disability.
To mark the occasion, a special quilt was designed, made by children
and adults with special needs families involved in the DSNG. CDF
General Peter Cosgrove and a number of politicians also made quilt
squares.
National quilt coordinator of the DSNG Margaret Fisk said the quilt
had special significance.
“Not only does it celebrate our 10-year journey of discovery, it
unites our families, with those special needs, our friends and supports
in a common cause,” she said.
The quilt is being sent to areas where the DSNG has local support
groups for people to view.
The tour began in Perth in June and will conclude in Canberra in
December where it will be presented to the Department of Defence
and hang in the foyer of Russell Offices.
