A
REVIEW of the Redress of Grievance (ROG) system is under way to
improve the responsiveness to complaints.
At a Senate inquiry into the effectiveness of Australia’s military
justice system, it was acknowledged that despite improvements
to the ROG process over recent years, there was still dissatisfaction
with the system.
As a result, the CDF and Defence Force Ombudsman agreed a further
review was required to address the concerns of members, particularly
with the process of finalising complaints.
The CDF commented that the time taken to deal with some grievances
was still longer than he would like.
“I have had discussions with the Defence Force Ombudsman about
conducting a joint review of the redress process to identify further
improvements,” General Peter Cosgrove said.
A review team has been established to identify deficiencies in
the ROG system and make recommendations to refine the process
to better meet the needs of members and the ADF.
The team will seek information to assess the timeliness and effectiveness
of the system from selected key players in the ROG process in
the form of a questionnaire and follow-up interview.
A joint report of the review began on September 13 and will be
presented to the CDF and Defence Force Ombudsman by December 11.
