A FUNERAL has been held for former CDF Admiral Alan Beaumont. He died last month after being ill for some time. A memorial service was held at St Paul’s Anglican Chapel at RMC Duntroon in Canberra on September 28.

ADML Beaumont was the first Australian to receive three awards in the Order of Australia – in 1982, 1989 and 1992. His Navy career began in 1948.

He served in the Vietnam conflict, with the Royal Navy and the United States Navy. ADML Beaumont held several senior posts. These included Assistant Chief of Defence Force (Personnel) and Vice Chief of Defence Force.

He retired from his CDF role in 1995, position he had held since 1993. He is survived by his second wife, Justine, and four children from a previous marriage. He was born in 1934.
