FIRST-TIME
Australian Queens competitor Flight Lieutenant Kate Martin has
excelled in the B-grade shooting at the South Australian State
Target Rifle Championships.
Out of a field of 158, FLTLT Martin overcame difficult wind
conditions on day three to win the first of the three stages
of the Queens outright, with the only maximum score of 150 on
the range.
She also won the B-grade Hunt series, the Bgrade Queens and the
B-grade grand aggregate (the Hunt and Queens combined).
FLTLT Martin, from No. 1 Radar Surveillance Unit at RAAF Base
Edinburgh, won 10 medals at the B-grade level (five gold, two
silver and three bronze) during the competition.
As a result of her success, she was promoted to A Grade at the
end of the championships.
The State Championships were held over five days and incorporated
the Hunt series over the first two days and the Queens series
over the final three.
She was delighted with her consistency throughout the competition.
“I normally fall at a couple of ranges, but to maintain the momentum
throughout the week was very pleasing,” she said.
The target rifle discipline is with a 7.62mm single shot rifle, in the prone position over ranges at 100m intervals from 300m
to 900m.
