THE US has recognised the outstanding service in Iraq during Operation Falconer of Group Captain Bill Henman.

CAF Air Marshal Angus Houston recently presented GPCAPT Henman with the US Bronze Star. It is one of America’s highest military decorations.

The award recognises GPCAPT Henman’s “meritorious achievement” during a tour of duty in the Middle East Area of Operations between February and April 2003.

He served as Detachment Commander, RAAF, of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing. In this role he provided leadership for and helped guide a combat force of more than 300 combat support and 140 air assets.

The citation notes that personnel under his command “were an exceptional addition” to the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing.

“The exemplary leadership, personal endeavour and devotion to duty displayed by [GPCAPT] Henman in this responsible position reflect great credit upon himself and the [Australian] Air Force,” the citation says.
