THE
US has recognised the outstanding service in Iraq during Operation
Falconer of Group Captain Bill Henman.
CAF Air Marshal Angus Houston recently presented GPCAPT Henman
with the US Bronze Star. It is one of America’s highest military
decorations.
The award recognises GPCAPT Henman’s “meritorious achievement”
during a tour of duty in the Middle East Area of Operations between
February and April 2003.
He served as Detachment Commander, RAAF, of the 379th Air Expeditionary
Wing. In this role he provided leadership for and helped guide
a combat force of more than 300 combat support and 140 air assets.
The citation notes that personnel under his command “were an exceptional
addition” to the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing.
“The exemplary leadership, personal endeavour and devotion to
duty displayed by [GPCAPT] Henman in this responsible position
reflect great credit upon himself and the [Australian] Air Force,”
the citation says.
GPCAPT Henman is OC of No. 81 Wing at RAAF Base Williamtown.
During
this period, [GPCAPT] Henman displayed exceptional leadership
while integrating the personnel and aircraft of the [Australian]
Air Force detachment into a multinational coalition ... His
leadership was instrumental in building the 379th Air Expeditionary
Wing into a cohesive combat unit...
