US Hornet crashes near Tindal

 

PERSONNEL from RAAF Base Tindal have rescued a US Marine whose F/A-18 crashed while participating in Exercise Southern Frontier.

The crash occurred about 3.45pm on September 14 while the pilot was conducting routine training about 16km southwest of the base. The pilot ejected safely and was taken to the medical clinic at Tindal for assessment before being released.

The cause of the crash is being investigated. The focus of Exercise Southern Frontier is air-to-ground exercises and various training capabilities.
