EIGHTEEN
Air Force and Navy pilots have swapped their flying suits for
dinner suits to perform escort duties.
Three months of training by No. 2 Flying Training School’s student
pilots, of RAAF Base Pearce, culminated in escorting intellectually
disabled debutantes the recent 2004 Debutantes Ball presented
by The Family and Disability Society of WA.
This was the first personal experience of intellectual disability
for many of the pilots.
The Family and Disability Society of WA believes they will be
positive ambassadors for disability throughout their future careers
because the student pilots developed a much better understanding
of the issues that face people with an intellectual disability.
The Australian Army Pipes and Drums and the Australian Army Band
Perth provided entertainment.
