Exercises with NZ to be reviewed

AUSTRALIA and New Zealand have agreed to review joint exercises, combined operations and collective training to take advantage of “every opportunity”.

At a recent meeting, both nations’ Defence Ministers discussed bilateral activities, including capability development, command, control and communications for combined operations, training, exercising, personnel development and logistics cooperation.

They agreed to work together at operational and policy levels to assist South Pacific neighbours and encourage regional cooperation to counter terrorist activities.

The Ministers discussed planning for Exercise Joint Kiwi, to be held in New Zealand in early 2005.

They also welcomed the work being done to develop the command, control and communications systems for combined operations and interoperability in the development stage of the new systems.
