WITH
a little help from Navy and Army, an understrength NSW Air Force
women’s side were able to win both its games in the NSW inter-service
basketball competition at Randwick Barracks last month.
Bolstered by Navy players, the side defeated Army 68-54. Then
Army provided some players for the match against Navy, which Air
Force won 75-55.
The nature of the mixed side meant that the women’s Air Force
team were ineligible to contest the final, in which Navy defeated
Army by a point.
The Air Force men’s team also failed to make it to the final,
losing to Army 70-87. Squadron Leader Tharren Kingston-Lee said
despite a 14-point lead at half time, the men found it difficult to overcome the Navy to qualify.
“Injuries and foul trouble meant we just weren’t able to maintain
the pace for the full 40 minutes,” SQNLDR Kingston-Lee said.
Leading Aircraftmen Ben Angliss and Nicky Parker were stand-out
players.
