AIR
Force has surrendered its netball crown following its loss to
Navy in the recent ACT interservice netball competition.
Each Service fielded a men’s, women’s and mixed side to determine
the overall champions.
The Air Force’s men’s team gave a strong performance against Navy,
who set a high standard early on in the competition. However,
Air Force lost the game 28-16.
The women’s team did better against the seafarers and contested
a tight four quarters. However, it lucked out to go down by one
point 22-21.
The mixed team was the most successful of the Air Force sides.
It beat Navy’s 18-16 but succumbed to Army’s 34-30. This left
Navy needing to win one of the remaining men’s or women’s game
against Army to clinch the ACT interservice title.
Both Navy teams trailed for the first three quarters but they
clawed their way to the front to eventually win 28-23 and 33-25
respectively. The competition was held at the ACT Netball Centre
on August 20.
