FIVE Air Force members have been selected for the ADF squash team that will tour New Zealand in October. Sergeant George Sweeney will captain the team of five men, three women and a manager.

Colleagues Sergeant Peter Gilkes, Sergeant Trevor Thorne, Sergeant Madonna Doyle and Leading Aircraftman Craig Baldwin will also take up spots on the team.

The tour of 16 days, from October 2-17, will feature matches against Blenheim, Ohakea and Woodburne invitation teams, local clubs, and the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

SGT Doyle said the New Zealand men’s side will be similar to that which toured Australia in 2002, however, the women will be an unknown quantity, as they didn’t tour in 2002.

“The men’s games will be close and hopefully we shall win the tour,” she said. The team was announced at the ADF Squash Association’s national carnival.
