ABOUT
3000 people witnessed a showcase of Air Force capabilities at
the RAAF Base Tindal Open Day on August 15.
The crowds were treated to spectacular aerial displays, including
an F-111 dump and burn and a three-ship F/A-18 formation fly-past.
Demonstrations by air force military working dogs, fire fighting
teams and Australia’s Federation Guard also featured, while the
Air Command Band had many toes tapping.
Static displays of F/A-18, F-111, Hawk, and C-130 aircraft (the
latter from No. 36 Squadron) proved popular between the aerial
manoeuvres.
So, too, did the visiting Hornets and a KC-130 refueler from the
US Marine Corps’ Fighter Attack 212 Squadron and a display from
Tindal’s model aircraft club.
Base Commander Group Captain Corrie Metz said the day was a wonderful
opportunity for the public to see the dedication and professionalism
of Air Force members first-hand.
“The day is also an opportunity to thank the local community,”
he said.
“The support of the community is essential if we are to be able
to do our job well and the open day is a way for the base to thank
the people of Katherine for their support and hospitality.”
