Lieutenant Richard Gardiner, from No. 76 Squadron, blitzed the
90-strong Defence contingent of runners who joined the City to
Surf fun run on August 8.
FLTLT Gardiner covered the 14km run from Sydney to Bondi Beach
in 48:59. This year’s event – held annually to raise money for
the New South Wales SIDS and KIDS Organisation – had a special
poignancy for the ADF.
Leading Aircraftman Bradley King’s son was stillborn almost 12
months ago. Navy Captain Frank Kresse, President of the ADF Running
and Athletics Association said this year the team ran not only
for Defence but for Team Ben, the name of Brad’s son.
“Each member of the team wore a purpose-designed top for the occasion,
which was extremely well received by the general public,” CAPT
Kresse said. LAC King, from RAAF Base Richmond, was thankful for
everyone’s support.
“I am extremely ecstatic with the number who turned out with Team
Ben,” LAC King said. “It just goes to show that the ADF is a very
caring and dedicated group of people.” LAC King also organised
an auction to raise more money on August 20.
