An eye on the future

A SIX-MONTH project is under way to set up the future Air Force aerospace intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capability.

The project will map the current and future ISR architecture, and will take into consideration the ADF’s future warfighting concept and network-centric warfare initiative.

Some of the sensors to be considered are Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, over-thehorizon radar and ground-based microwave radar.

Key Air Force personnel will be interviewed to provide expertise, particularly on how the capability relates to personnel, collective training, technology, infrastructure, logistics, command support, and other fundamental inputs to capability.

The Aerospace ISR architecture project will identify risks and challenges as well as provide recommendations and guiding principles for future exploration.

CAF Air Marshal Angus Houston expects the work done by the newly-formed Surveillance and Response Group will be used a template for further studies of other Air Force capabilities.
