A FLYOVER of three vintage Tiger Moths marked Reserve Forces Day in Newcastle, one of many parades around Australia on July 3.

Among the Australian marchers there were veterans from the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Hong Kong.

Many of those who took part in the Newcastle parade travelled to Sydney for the largest of the Reserve Forces Day marches, on July 4.

More than 5000 veterans and Reservists formed up near St Mary’s Cathedral before stepping off towards Macquarie Street. No. 23 (City of Brisbane) Squadron took part in the Queensland city’s event in late June.

It provided a contingent of personnel, including the Colours and a spectacle of floats consisting of the F-111 module, cutaway engine, Air Force emergency vehicles, and military working dogs and handlers. The Air Command Band supported the contingent.

23SQN Commanding Officer Squadron Leader Randall Wright described the day as an important reflection on the service rendered by Reservists who support the ADF in many ways, both in Australia and abroad.

CDF General Peter Cosgrove accepted the salute in the presence of CAF Air Marshal Angus Houston.
