Healthy plans for Baghdad

SQNLDR Glen Storrar

LIFE at Camp Victory, Baghdad, couldn’t be healthier for Squadron Leader Glen Storrar.

As an environmental health officer, SQNLDR Storrar is responsible for public health safety for ADF personnel in Baghdad – their communal living and work environments.

He ensures that proper hygiene standards are maintained, looking at areas such as food, accommodation, water quality and public health.

“Up here my work also includes occupational hygiene – lighting, noise, and radiation amongst other things” SQNLDR Storrar said.

“A big part of this is vector-borne disease control to minimise exposure to diseases such as malaria.” He did a similar job in East Timor in 2000.

“This time I have a much more comprehensive role of health planning that encompasses all aspects of providing health care, including making sure that all personnel have good access to a medic and hospital,” he said.
