Clerical
errors
I
wish to clarify some points in the article “Working group set
up on clerk pay” (Air Force News, July 1).
The article states that an Occupational Specification working
group has been set up to look at clerical competencies; this information
is correct and the OSWG will take place at HQTC during the first week in August. The article suggests that the OCCSPEC will
be forwarded to DGPERS-AF for approval in August – this statement
is not correct.
The OSWG will take place in August, the draft OCCSPEC is then
forwarded to stakeholders for comment before being reviewed and
amended as required before being forwarded to DGPERS-AF and CAF
for approval of the OCCSPEC. As you can imagine this process takes
some time.
The article goes on to say that “DMA will then prepare a pay case
for Air Force clerks and plans to progress this through DFRT by
the end of the year.” This statement is incorrect and will not
occur.
Once the OCCSPEC has been approved (which as you can see from
the information above will take some time) DMA will look at the
new competencies and consider progressing a pay case for clerks.
Again the process in preparing a pay case and what is required
to be presented to the DFRT will take some time.

Eager
Beavers
While
it is pleasing to see that two old friends are still hanging in
there (“Don’t I know you? Beavers reunited”, Air Force News, June
17) I must point out that more than 100 Beavers still remain (and
keep in contact with each other).
As a professional officer in DMO’s Aerospace Systems Division
working for the ASD Chief Engineer (Acquisition), WGCDR Phil Tammen,
I would also claim to have active contacts with Air Force (and
43˝ years continuous service in Defence).
Given that my CRA is 65 I might just be here in my office in
Russell when the three people mentioned in your article ride off
into the sunset.
However, before we Beavers (ER&L) get carried away, there are
a few grandads out there from earlier “appie” intakes who also
still serve. Alan Hind (DEOH), 13th Intake (Oysters, 1959-61),
may be the longest serving “appie” with active contact with Air
Force.
