Example 1

A corporal (paygroup 4) on two-year increment, MSBS, living in (level 1) at RAAF Base Scherger and who has served six years has a base salary of $40,377 and a total estimated value of $65,289.

Example 2

A flight lieutenant on two-year increment, MSBS, living with dependents in Canberra in married quarters, receives the $8000 a year air traffic controllers’ retention benefit and who has served 15 years has a base salary of $51,514 and a total estimated value of $99,757.

A NEW salary package comparison model called Compare Your Package has been developed for use by ADF personnel on the Defence Intranet.

This new model is designed to allow ADF personnel to calculate, in general terms, the overall remuneration package they would need to receive in civilian life to equal that provided to them as members of the ADF.

Compare Your Package is designed to inform ADF personnel either considering discharge or wishing to evaluate what their total remuneration package is actually worth.

As a retention tool it is a valuable addition to commanders counselling their people on the full value of the ADF remuneration package.

It is a user-friendly program with the latest information. The program includes ADF salaries and allowances available to ADF personnel as well as health care and housing assistance components provided as part of ADF remuneration.

Compare Your Package cannot include such items as salary sacrifice options because the tax implications of this will vary greatly depending on personal circumstances.

Compare Your Package is merely a tool provided for ADF personnel to better understand the overall value of their total remuneration package, such as in the examples at right.
