AIR
FORCE leaders participating in the upcoming Leadership Exchange
will be breaking new ground with the introduction of a “learning
contract”.
People often see training opportunities as a burden, with little
visible understanding or commitment as to how the workplace can
benefit from the knowledge, skills or attitudes a person gains.
The Leadership Exchange aims to alter this perception.
The exchange is about developing leadership potential in Air Force
leaders from the ranks of corporal to squadron leader in a format
that involves sharing of experiences around four key themes.
With theory and exercises designed to stimulate discussion and
learning, the exchange aims to make lessons directly transferable
to leadership in the workplace.
To ensure this connection, participants will complete a learning
contract that will help them to identify areas most useful to
them in their own workplace context, and set some expectations
of how participation in the exchange will benefit their unit.
Although
the exchange is PMKeys reported, the real learning is in what
each person is able to practically apply.
After the exchange, participants will be encouraged to reflect
on the things they learn and apply them to the workplace through
their contract.
While it might sound like hard work, the learning contract ensures
the unit is part of the learning loop and supports each participant
in developing their leadership potential.
