Doug Parkinson wows the audience with the Air Command Big Band at RAAF Base Richmond.

THE crowd at the RAAF Base Richmond Sergeants’ Mess Winter Ball on June 4 were delighted, thrilled and totally rocked by Australian music legend Doug Parkinson when he sang with the Air Command Big Band.

His voice is part of Australia’s rock heritage and his imposing physique and stage presence held the audience’s attention in a vice-grip.

Doug thrilled the audience with some of the hits that saw him become a rock superstar, such as Dear Prudence and I’ll Be Around.

He also performed classic hits such as Unchained Melody and Let The Good Times Roll.

Doug was knocked out by the standard of the Air Command Band, making particular mention of the “incredible horn section” – some of whom work privately with Doug in his newly-formed 10-piece band, Doug Parkinson’s Wildlife.

Commenting on the experience, Leading Aircraftman Tim Oram said, “It was great to hear Doug sing with a big band.

His voice is amazing, the best in Australia – a true gentlemen”.

From the moment he appeared as a serious participant in Australian popular music in 1966, Doug commanded attention.

Thirty years later he is a true household name.
