SEXUAL
offences reported by Air Force personnel decreased by almost half
between 2001-02 and 2002-03, dropping from nine to five cases,
while the number of sexual harassments reported in the same time
increased from six to nine.
The Defence Equity Organisation review says the data could be
interpreted as, and is mostly likely to be, an increase in the
awareness of and confidence in the complaints process.
CAF Air Marshal Angus Houston has reminded staff of his expectations
and noted that although the reported incidents for Air Force are
statistically low, he believes the Air Force can “always do better”.
“I will not tolerate bullying, harassment or discrimination of
any kind,” AIRMSHL Houston said. “I expect our people to be respected,
to feel safe, and to be treated with dignity at all times, in
accordance with the laws of natural justice. Swift action will
be taken if breaches occur.”
