Aces North was the final stage of tactics training for the No. 28 Fighter Combat Instructors and No. 6 Fighter Combat Controllers courses. Sixty aircraft and more than 1000 personnel were involved in the exercise, held at RAAF Bases Tindal and Darwin from May 24 to June 18.

As well as the threat from the enemy and weather, many flights were into extremely hazardous terrain, particularly in the swampy Mekong Delta and the rugged mountainous terrain near the “Zee”.
