Tribute to Vietnam vets

Vietnam Anzacs

By Kevin Lyles. Osprey Publishing Elite series). 64pp. $25.

Reviewer: CPL Damian Shovell

Osprey is famous for the numerous illustrated historical reference books it has produced on the uniforms, equipment and organisation of military forces throughout history.

These books are of the highest standards, which is very apparent in this latest offering of Anzac history.

Vietnm Anzacs pays tribute to the military proficiency of Australian and New Zealand soldiers who served in South Vietnam, including those who served with the AATTV and SAS.

The book describes and illustrates their uniforms and equipment in amazing detail. The author, Kevin Lyles, has taken 10 years to research this book and create the original paintings used as illustrations.

The result is phenomenal, with the illustrations so lifelike it is like meeting WO2 Ray Simpson VC face-to-face. Any student of Australian or New Zealand military life in Vietnam will find this essential reading and a must-have for their collection.

Osprey also has previously produced an Australian Army reference book, The Australian Army at War 1899-1975 (Men-at-Arms series No. 123), which is still in print.
