Team set for New Zealand

By LS Rachel Irving

FOUR Air Force men and six women are set to take on New Zealand when the ADF Men’s and Women’s basketball teams tour there shortly.

The Air Force contingent includes Flying Officer Fiona Harris, currently posted to Defence Establishment Fairbairn, who has played high-level basketball in the United States and Australia.

Invited by the New Zealand Defence Force, the ADF teams will leave Australia on June 8 and will tour until June 25. Although this is the third tour of New Zealand for the ADF Basketball Association (ADFBA) – the first in 1983 and second in 1991 – it has not been overseas since going to the UK in 1998.

The tour will include a three-game Test series against the NZDF. There will also be games against the police force and national basketball league teams, including the Manawatu Jets. The ADFBA teams are particularly keen to chalk up a win against the NZ combined services team, whom they have yet to beat.
