Air
power had a pivotal role in the Dunkirk evacuation and the D-Day
invasion,
the Luftwaffe failed to impose total air superiority over the
Dunkirk beaches in June 1940, but total air supremacy over the
Normandy Beaches in the surrounding area was a single prerequisite
that insured the success of the Alied landing in June 1944.
