There
has been precious little in the way of photo essays about
the recent Iraq war to help visualise the realities of the
conflict.
Fortunately, there is now an outstanding book which documents
the British military involvement in Iraq.
The Fight for Iraq is the official British Army pictorial
account of Op Telic.
Published by the Army Benevolent Fund, the British Army’s
national charity, the case-bound book contains more than 170
full-colour images shot by six British Army photographers
during the first half of 2003.
It is a superbly presented work that captures the essence
of the British operations in Southern Iraq.
The photos are of the highest standard and are thought-provoking
and personal, capturing the essence of the subject matter.
Together with the accompanying commentary, the reader is guided
through the experiences of the 46,000 British service personnel
who served in the Middle East Area of Operations.
Books of this calibre are hard to find, so for anyone with
an interest in the second Gulf conflict it is well worth the
effort to obtain a copy.
